Gantry and antenna of satellite dish Arthur
This photograph of satellite dish Arthur at the British Telecom Goonhilly Satellite Earth Station shows the gantry supporting
the antenna used for transmission and reception.
The satellite dish, which is shaped like a parabola, is pointed towards the appropriate satellite.
The signals from the satellite that arrive at the dish are reflected towards a focal point where the
receiving antenna is located on a gantry.
From the antenna the signals are routed for amplification and processing before being forwarded to the end user via
the normal terrestial telecommunications system, i.e., landlines and microwave links.
